Richard Fleck
Richard F. Fleck holds a Ph.D in English from the University of New Mexico (1970) as well as an M.A. in English (Colorado State University, 1965) and a B.A. in French (Rutgers University, 1959). During his teaching career, mostly at the University of Wyoming with visiting appointments at Osaka University, Japan and the University of Bologna, Italy, he has written numerous articles for national journals including Sierra, Wilderness, National Parks Magazine, and The Christian Science Monitor and has published or edited over two dozen books, the most recent being Critical Perspectives on Native American Fiction (Three Continents Press, 1993,1997), A Colorado River Reader (University of Utah Press, 2000) and Breaking Through the Clouds (Pruett Publishers, 2005). He has written introductions to trade paperback editions of Henry Thoreau, John Muir and John Burroughs including Henry D. Thoreau's The Maine Woods (Harper Collins, 1987). At age 73 he continues to write outdoor articles, poetry and literary essays. His most recent work is a collection of his mountaineering poems Mountains on My Mind, a Barnes and Noble NOOKbook, 2010.
